When creating my baby registry a few months ago, I was completely LOST! 😦 Where do I even begin – clothing, toys, or nursery items?! My coworker saved me by reviewing my online registry with babylist.com. Since my baby girl is now TWO months old, I thought it would be helpful to look back and list the MUST-HAVE items for a newborn’s FIRST month. Add these products to your registry and have them ready-to-go in your last month of pregnancy!
A few things to make your life easier:
- Understand that the blog is organized by categories (sleeping, transporting, diaper bag, diapering, feeding, bathing, playing, clothing)
- Review the summary paragraph under every category to see why I recommend the product
- Click on the photo to be directed to the link to purchase/view the item
- See quantity recommended in the first month below the picture (if greater than one is required)
Sleeping
The Fisher-Price Bassinet fits really well next to my side of the bed 🙂 Room-sharing (not bed-sharing) is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) until baby is at least 6 months old. My baby LOVES the music included in it. The Hatch Machine (or any white noise machine) is another recommended item for a baby’s perfect sleep. The baby was accustomed to noise in your belly, so the white noise (such as a fan blowing, rain falling, etc.) calms your baby. It also has an App, where you can change the color, time settings, and sound preferences from your phone! The Google Nest Camera also connects to your phone through an App. The Halo Swaddle is super easy to put on (instead of wrapping a blanket) and has a calming effect since the baby is used to being in tight areas (remember the hips/legs need room to move!).
Transporting
Since I knew that I would be using the stroller on a daily basis, I decided to splurge on the super-durable, easily-foldable UPPAbaby Stroller. The UPPAbaby Car Seat is pretty heavy (great arm work out!) but my baby absolutely loves it! She stops crying as soon as we start driving in it. I feel more comfortable seeing my baby at all times with the Britax Mirror in the back seat. The Ergobaby Carrier has been life-changing. Sometimes it’s the only thing to ease her fussiness and yay for multi-tasking! 🙂 The extra zipper pocket (for phone or pacifier) is convenient when I’m holding my dog leash in one hand + a to-go cup (with black tea) in the other hand. I always throw a Blanket over her car seat or stroller, since it’s chilly in Pittsburgh now!
Diaper Bag
The FAWN DESIGN diaper bag is super stylish + completely practical. I love how the book bag fits everything I need without breaking my shoulders or back. I attached the Munckin Diaper Bag Dispenser on the side of the diaper bag for easy access – super nice to have a bag to put smelly diapers into 🙂 The Honest Hand Sanitizer smells FANTASTIC and is good to use before/after diaper changes and for family/friends to use before holding your baby. After testing out different types of pacifiers, my baby loves the Philips Avent Soothie Pacifier – purchase extra since you are bound to lose one or two in the first month! 🙂 The Baby Portable Changing Pad (a must-have when using germ-filled changing stations) can fit your diapers, diaper rash cream, and wipes all in one place!
Diapering
It helps to have both sizes of Newborn + Size 1 diapers ready-to-go! I went through 12 diapers/day (minimum) during the first few weeks. Remember to join the Pampers Rewards program for free stuff. The OXO Wipes Dispenser makes things quicker + more convenient when changing your baby, since you can open/close the container + pull out a wipe with one hand. It also fits perfectly along with 10 diapers, A+D Diaper Ointment (love how it’s clear + not a pasty white formulation), and Babyganics Foaming Hand Sanitizer in the Diaper Caddy. I placed the Munchkin STEP Diaper Pail next to the changing station, which completely eliminates odors + has an easy-to-use foot pedal.
Feeding
My baby drank the best from the Dr. Brown’s Baby Bottle, which are known for reducing colic, spit-up, burping and gas. The Burt’s Bees Burp Clothes are 100% organic cotton! The Nursing Pillow Cover is super soft + a must for feeding to ease any tension in your back/shoulders. My baby used it for tummy time, too 🙂 The Boon Drying Rack holds everything you need securely, including bottles, bottle lids, bottle caps, pump supplies, etc. The OXO Tot Bottle Brush is a must to wash your bottles. It conveniently stands on its own with the base and can hold the Dapple Bottle Soap.
Bathing
My baby LOVES to bathe 2-3 times per week in her Newborn-to-Toddler Tub with Sling. She likes the water to be super warm! The Munchkin Shampoo Rinser (with a soft, contouring rim) makes rinsing out her shampoo a breeze. I tested out multiple baby wash products and really enjoy the Honest Shampoo + Body Wash the most. My friend gifted me with the fox Wash Cloths from Target, since our Shiba Inu looks like a fox! 🙂 The Honest Lotion can be used on the face + body. The Towel Wrap below can be personalized with the baby’s name!
Playing
I sometimes didn’t want to have my baby all the way on the second floor when I was on the first floor cooking, so I would place the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker on top of the kitchen island (away from my dog too!) + my baby would relax in there. The Newborn Gift Set was super helpful for tummy time. Most babies are not entirely fond of it, so rattling some toys in both directions to help your baby lift her head helps. While your baby may not completely understand what you are saying, it helps to start to read to your baby on a daily basis with a few Books.
Clothing
Similar to the burp clothes, I love how the Burt’s Bees Baby Short Sleeve Bodysuits are 100% organic cotton. They stretch easily to put it on your baby in seconds! I can’t stress enough how important it is to pick Footed Long Sleeve Onesies with mitten cuffs to avoid accidental scratching and to keep your baby warm. The ones below came in such cute prints, made diaper changing a breeze with a convenient front zipper, and are made of 100% cotton! A+ in my book. Don’t forget the matching Hats!
